Auction of promises in aid of Southwell Minster Choir

Bidders at an illustrious Auction of Promises next month will see items go under the hammer of former Christie’s auctioneer, Charlie Leggatt, now Southwell Minster’s Director of fund raising.

The special auction on Friday 27th April, in the historic walled garden of Bishop’s Manor, aims to raise funds for the Minster Choir.

Charlie said: “By straining every financial muscle, the Cathedral today stands just under £100,000 short of the £600,000 target to restore the central tower, but we must not forget our other areas of need and the auction of promises is in aid of the post of Organ Scholar. This position is critical to our in-house education work. It provides a marvellous spring board for young people to learn the 'craft' of their trade (the Cathedral has two organs) as well as the daily discipline that the choral tradition demands.”

Some of the promises available include learning to fly a microlight aircraft / a private tour of BBC Nottingham studios / play the Minster organ / a home DVD edited by professionals / a private group tour of the Dulwich Picture Gallery / two freshly shorn sheep fleeces / computer & IT tuition / have a dinner party cooked for you / GCSE revision tutorials / a day on the famous Irnham Cookery courses / hire a band for your party / two Wills professionally drafted, plus home-made cakes & chocolates, dog-walking, lawn-moving, pet-feeding, baby-sitting, ironing, concert tickets, vouchers from Southwell traders for beauty treatment, fine meat, an Indian meal, dog grooming, salsa, drum lessons, plus silver, CDs, embroidery, a stately home concert, wine, whisky, champagne:  more than 60 lots!

Free entry & catalogue  – Bar from 6.30pm with auction from 7.30-9.30pm. Guests should use entrance through Great Hall via Minster churchyard.
