Bishop joins churches in India for annual conference

The Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham will fly out to India this month where he will be speaking at a diocesan conference for the Mar Thoma Syrian Church in Kottarakara, Kerala in India.

The Rt Revd George Cassidy and Mrs Jane Cassidy have been invited by Bishop Abraham Mar Paulos. Their visit will include a number of speaking engagements, meeting with key contacts and then further church engagements in Sri Lanka.

Bishop George will be stepping back from diocesan duties during the next three months, as he takes a period of study leave. He said: “I will spend a good proportion of my time working in London implementing the Review recently carried out of the Churches Main Committee. My sabbatical has come at a good time to work with colleagues in Church Commissioners, Roman Catholic and Methodist churches to make sure that the new Churches' Legislation Advisory Service is up and running by 1st May 2007.”

The Bishop will resume his normal workload from Easter onwards. During his time away the Bishop of Sherwood, the Rt Revd Tony Porter will deputise for him, assisted by other key leaders in the diocese.
