Nottinghamshire’s cathedral - Southwell Minster is gearing up for its busiest time of year as Christmas approaches. The festivities continue this week with the Joint Emergency Services Carol Service on Wednesday (13th December 2006) at 7.30pm. This special event which draws together members of the East Midlands Ambulance Service, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Nottinghamshire Police and their families, is open to anyone. Music will be provided by Nottinghamshire Police Band and Nottingham Hospitals’ Choir. Refreshments and mince pies are included after the service. On Friday (15th December) the Minster will run a special event called ‘Lunchtimes in the Cathedral’ from 12.15-1pm when there will be music and readings on the theme of Advent, followed by a sandwich lunch. Minster Precentor, Canon Jaqui Jones hopes the Friday events will become a regular feature in the Spring, giving people the chance to come and take time out from the busy week and offer a space for reflection. The Minster Choir will be performing live on BBC Radio 3 on Wednesday (20th December), when they will give the first performance of some new advent music for the special programme of Choral Evensong at 4pm. Anyone who would like to be present in the Minster for the service is asked to be in their seats by 3.40 pm. Some of the music to be broadcast will include the anthem Vox dicentis, clama by Naylor. A full list of all the Christmas services are available on the Minster website at: www.southwellminster.co.uk
